AUBURN — Following the retirement of Bruce Pearl on Monday, Sept. 22, Auburn basketball announced it'd be promoting from within, making associate head coach and defensive coordinator Steven Pearl , 38, its next head coach.

Auburn 's newest head coach signed a five-contract, according to a release, and he'll become the 22nd head coach in program history.

While he's stepping into his first head-coaching job, Pearl has been with Auburn since 2014, joining his father's program as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. He became the Tigers’ director of basketball operations in 2015 before a promotion to an on-court assistant role in 2017. Eventually, in 2023, he was elevated to his associate head coach role.
