MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As the city prepares to see National Guard troops, the Mayor of Memphis said he's meeting with leaders in Washington D.C. to learn about the National Guard's role there.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young says the work was framed around law enforcement, beautification, and homelessness services.
The city of Memphis and various groups have been working to clean up trash in city streets and neighborhoods.
Similar to what happened in Washington, D.C., when the President deployed troops there as his administration pushed a crime crackdown.
"This is the third day of Task Force beautification project. Today we collected approximately 40 trash bags where we collected as you can see pieces of debris and old tires and crates," video from D.C. National Guard.
