Amazon plans to power more of its Oregon data centers with electricity from an Avangrid solar farm. The companies announced a deal Monday that covers a Gilliam County project due to open in 2027.
Avangrid’s Oregon Trail Solar project has been in development for several years and will generate 57 megawatts of power from more than 100,000 solar panels on 400 acres about a dozen miles south of the Columbia River, according to state licensing data.
That’s enough electricity to power 10,000 homes. Avangrid said Amazon will buy all the power from the new solar farm, which Avangrid said will employ “several” people when operational.
Amazon signed a separate deal last year to buy power from an Avangrid wind farm in Gilliam County, which has a capacity of nearly 100 megawatts.
