Man faces attempted murder, weapons charges after shooting at Inuvik, N.W.T., airport

A Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T., man is facing a list of charges after a woman was shot outside the Inuvik airport on Saturday afternoon, and several more people were hit by the pickup truck the shooter had reportedly fled in.

RCMP said in a news release on Monday that Maverick Elias, 21, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, dangerous driving, and several weapons charges, including six counts of assault with a weapon.

Police said that the victims, including the 58-year-old woman who was allegedly shot at the airport, are in stable condition.

The shooting happened early Saturday afternoon. Police said they received a call just after 1 p.m. that a woman had been shot and the suspect had fled in a pickup truck.
