Four years after a man was arrested after being accused of killing his roommate in Miramar and leaving his body in a closet, opening statements in his trial began on Monday.
Marvin Jean-Pierre, 26, was charged with first-degree murder and grand theft auto in the 2020 killing of 52-year-old Jose Mondelus.
During their opening statements, prosecutors described how Jean-Pierre killed 52-year-old Jose Mondelus.
“You’ll hear that he told police, 'Oh, I got in a fight with my roommate. My roommate was gay and was coming on to me. He rubbed me inappropriately, and I had no choice, so I threw an iron at his head and kicked him a few times,” said Taylor Collins, an assistant state attorney with the Broward State Attorney's Office.
According to Jean-Pierre's defense team, Mondelus took advanta
