DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The LGBTQ Center of Durham is expecting at least 15,000 people to attend this weekend's Pride event in Downtown Durham.
The gathering marks a milestone and leaders say support is needed more than ever.
"We know that just showing up and being is in itself an act of radical resistance," said LGBTQ Center of Durham Interim Co-Executive Director Vanity Reid-Deterville.
The Center is celebrating 10 years of operation next month.
Different for the 2025 Pride event, the center says Durham County is opting out of being a headlining sponsor of Pride .
"It's a very nuanced, very difficult situation. It is a fact of reality," said Deterville.
ABC11 reached out to Durham County for comment on the decision and has not received a response.
