ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Major League Baseball has approved a $1.7 billion sale of the Tampa Bay Rays.
League officials confirmed the sale to 10 Tampa Bay Sports Director Evan Closky on Monday, following an initial report from the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The sale is expected to close in the coming days, allowing Jacksonville-based Dream Finders Homes CEO Patrick Zalupski to buy the team from current principal owner Stu Sternberg.
This announcement comes less than a week after other members of the Rays' current leadership announced they would be stepping down once the sale is finalized.
