Just like how it started, the Lubbock County 2026 Budget approval ended in heated debates and a narrow adoption vote.
On Monday, the Lubbock County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 to adopt this year's $322,558,982 budget - down from $345 million from the 2025 budget. County Judge Curtis Parrish and Commissioner Mike Dalby voted no to the passage of the budget.
"This budget hurts Lubbock County," Parrish said. "It hurts employees. It hurts law enforcement. It hurts firefighters. It hurts facilities. It hurts road and bridge. It hurts every aspect of this county."
Parrish said he has issues with the budget because it cuts $250,000 from volunteer fire departments and $1.4 million from the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office.
