TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - Rising property taxes are putting pressure on Floridians, and state lawmakers are taking a closer look at what changes could mean for schools and local communities.

The House Property Tax Select Committee, the largest committee in the Florida House, spent Monday reviewing how property taxes work and how potential cuts might affect school districts across the state.

“This is a huge responsibility not just for us, but for future legislatures to come,” said Rep. Juan Carlos Porras, (R) Miami.

Lawmakers are considering putting a property tax question on the ballot next year. But before voters weigh in, the committee wants to fully understand the potential consequences.
