The No. 2 man in the Warren Police Department is about hit the streets of Clinton Township as a patrol officer.

Charles Rushton is retiring as deputy police commissioner after 25 years of service in Warren and is expected to be formally hired tonight by the township board of trustees.

Clinton Township Police Chief Preston Susalla said he believes Rushton will bring “extensive knowledge and experience” to the township’s police force.

Rushton, 49, said he is not leaving the Warren police force with any ill will. He said he still has a family to care for, so he looked for another job in law enforcement.
