St. Louis County police: Boy dead after swing set collapse

ST. LOUIS COUNTY — An 8-year-old boy on Sunday died after a backyard swing set collapsed and trapped him beneath it, police say.

Officers were called at about 6 p.m. to the 11300 block of Larimore Road, St. Louis County police said.

Cortez Williams Jr., 8, was unresponsive when officers arrived.

Investigators say Cortez was playing on a backyard swing set when it collapsed, trapping him beneath a crossbar.

Family members were able to free him, police said.

He initially appeared to have suffered only minor injuries, but he later became unresponsive.

Cortez was was pronounced dead at a hospital.
