PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Authorities are identifying a man who was killed after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 84 caused his Tesla to catch fire on Saturday, according to Oregon State Police.

Oregon State Police say officials responded to the crash near Milepost 24 around 3:49 a.m. Investigators at the scene said a BMW X3 had been traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when it crashed head-on into a Tesla Model Y.

The Tesla caught fire and became “fully engulfed,” according to OSP. The driver, identified on Monday as 40-year-old Jeffrey Allen Flood, was declared dead at the scene.

The BMW driver also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, officials said.

An investigation impacted traffic for about five hours on Saturday morning.
