RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) — A local ranch is aiming to help veterans, people with disabilities, and at-risk youth find their power through horses. Loving Thunder is a non-profit in Rio Rancho that's been getting individuals reconnected with animals and nature for nearly 20 years.

"It's all about taking people who typically wouldn't be able to go to a regular barn, and giving them the power to ride a horse," said Loving Thunder Cofounder and Executive Director Twuana Raupp. "They can benefit in the fact, and especially veterans, that they are taught to be hypervigilant for their protection, and that's the way horses live naturally. So horses can help a human come back down and not be so hypervigilant, be more in the moment, and more in tune with their bodies."
