Riley Patterson has a new OHL team and new hope for an NHL career.
The Vancouver Canucks ’ prospect centre, along with right-winger Gabriel Chiarot, was signed to a three-year, entry level deal Monday to continue to grow his game. The incentive is especially high for Patterson, who skipped OHL training camp last month and requested a trade from the Barrie Colts. He will suit up for the Niagara IceDogs this season.
The teams met in the opening round of the playoffs last spring with the Colts winning the five-game set 4-1, so Patterson is being touted as a key cog for the IceDogs. He piled up 121 points (54-67) over the last two OHL seasons in Barrie, and the Colts received five draft picks in the trade.
