CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — SCI Rockview is currently in the process of closing for good, but the fate of the land it sits on is uncertain.

Rockview is more than just the prison. The entire property is host to about 5,700 acres in total. The future of the land has been a talking point since the beginning, and the DOC heard about it firsthand at the public hearings. Rep. Dallas Kephart (R-73) specifically said he did not want to see any "sweetheart deals" with regard to the land.

The DOC responded directly to the speculation in a press release earlier this year. In it, the department claims it has "no ability to sell land associated with the facility," and if a sale were to happen, the Department of General Services would be the entity responsible for handling that.
