ELYRIA, Ohio — The Lorain County Board of Commissioners announced Friday that a data security incident earlier this year may have exposed personal information belonging to county employees and vendors.

On May 23, county officials learned that an unauthorized party had gained access to internal records on the Lorain County Auditor’s network, according to a news release. A forensic investigation found that files containing auditor employee and vendor Social Security, bank account and routing numbers were potentially impacted.

Critical county infrastructure was not compromised, according to the release, though most county networks were briefly taken offline as a precaution. All systems were restored by June 2. Emergency services, including 911, remained fully operational during that time.
