GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) -- September 27, marks one year since Hurricane Helene tore through parts of North and South Carolina. While Greenville County wasn’t among the hardest-hit areas, the storm still left behind visible scars and memories that haven’t faded.

"It was like an ocean," Greenville resident, Mary Allmaras said.

"We couldn't sleep cause the wind was so, so strong," Greenville resident, Karlie Brune said.

Waters rose dramatically at Unity Park and in surrounding areas.

"The water really rose about 20 feet and it escalated to where we lost the apartment next to us, Riverside, we lost about 30 cars," Allmaras said.

Fallen trees blocked roads and trails and landed on homes.
