MONSON, Maine (WABI) - Stretching just shy of 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine, the Appalachian Trail draws hikers from all over the world to hike it in its entirety.

Early fall is a busy time of year on Maine’s stretch of it.

“The north bounders who made it this far are very seasoned hikers. They have fantastic trail legs. They’ve done the hardest part of the trail, which is Western Maine and the Whites, so they’re ready to cruise through the 100-Mile Wilderness and summit Katahdin,” said Wendy Weiger, Manager of Monson’s Appalachian Trail Visitors Center.

Hikers heading north have been bumping shoulders for over 2,000 miles since the trail’s start in Georgia.

Many say they have made friends or helpful connections along the way.
