HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - The Connecticut funeral director accused of stealing prepaid funeral funds from customers at 4 funeral homes, is now facing new charges in East Windsor.
East Windsor Police arrested Philip Pietras on September 17th, charging him in 8 fraud cases.
The East Windsor cases are related to the former Bassinger and Dowd Funeral Home on Gardner Street. The business is now under new ownership, and going by the name East Windsor Community Funeral Home.
Between the 8 East Windsor cases, Pietras now faces 14 counts of larceny and 7 counts of intent to defraud, related to accusations dating back to 2015.
Police say Pietras took money from customers, and instead of putting it away for funerals, spent the money on gambling and trips.
