HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets season starts next month, and according to reports, they could be without their starting point guard.

As first reported by Shams Charania, Fred VanVleet suffered a torn ACL, according to sources, and could miss the season.

That means Reed Sheppard would likely move into the role, with Amen Thompson and Aaron Holiday helping out.

Last season, VanVleet averaged 14.1 points per game with 5.6 assists. He’s going into his third season with Houston after playing more than six seasons with the Toronto Raptors, where he was part of an NBA championship team.

Earlier this year, VanVleet agreed to a two-year deal with the Rockets worth $50 million.
