WOODLAND, Ill. (WCIA) -- Two railroad crossings in Iroquois County will be upgraded in the coming years with automatic warning lights and gates, the Illinois Commerce Commission announced.
Last week, the ICC approved funding to install gates and warning time circuitry at the crossings south of Woodland on County Road 1300 East. The crossings are located just feet apart, and ICC officials said the warning devices will operate in a coordinated manner when a train is passing on either track.
"It’s appropriate for the ICC to approve these life-saving projects during Rail Safety Week,” ICC Commissioner Michael Carrigan said in a news release. “The Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) makes it possible to install modernized warning devices at highway-rail crossings in communities across Illin
