An Australian artisan cheesemaker has struck gold at the world's premier cheese competition, Mondial du Fromage in France.
Long Paddock Cheese from Castlemaine, Victoria, was the only Australian cheesemaker recognised at the event and won the gold for its Banksia cheese.
It followed a win in the oldest cheese competition in the world, the International Cheese and Dairy Awards in the UK, two months ago.
Another Victorian cheesemaker, Berrys Creek , took out the supreme artisan prize at the 2023 ICDA.
Long Paddock co-owner Alison Lansley said Banksia, a semi-hard cow's milk cheese, was crafted in the style of traditional French alpine cheeses such as Abondance and Tomme de Savoie.
"Winning this award on French soil made the victory even sweeter," Ms Lansley said.
