Over two years after application, Shodair Children’s Hospital received $2.3 million in federal credits to make up for COVID-19 impacts.

“Mental health care is something I think that often gets brushed under the rug in a lot of areas,” U.S. Rep Troy Downing, R-Montana, said. He said children's mental health care is vital and can aid in addressing crises later in life.

Helena-based Shodair provides acute, residential and outpatient psychiatric care for Montana children and teens. In 2024, it provided over 12,000 psychiatric outpatient appointments and 844 inpatient admits, according to its stat sheet.

Shodair has been waiting on COVID-19 relief money for years, CEO Craig Aasved said.

The $2.3 million comes from the Internal Revenue Service, specifically Employee Retention Credits offered
