At least three candidates running for city councillor in an upcoming Scarborough-Rouge Park municipal byelection say their election signs have been vandalized in recent days.

Neethan Shan, Ashan Fernando and Zakir Patel said on Monday they believe they have been the targets of a co-ordinated campaign to destroy their signs. Ward 25 goes to the polls next Monday, Sept. 29. Advance voting, in which 4,376 voters cast their ballots, was held on the weekend.

Twenty candidates are hoping to fill the seat vacated by former councillor and deputy mayor Jennifer McKelvie after she was elected Liberal MP for Ajax.

Shan, who alleges that hundreds of his election signs have been vandalized, said he has reported the vandalism to Toronto police and his campaign team has provided security camera videos
