TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) has launched the Yellow Jacket fuels reduction project near Arivaca.

Starting Sept. 22, this project is set to increase wildfire resilience and improve the ecological health of the Altar Valley, according to a news release.

The project involves 61 acres of hand thinning operations to establish shaded fuel breaks, which help reduce wildfire risks and promote healthier landscapes. Crews will remove dense, low-lying fuels and trim low-hanging limbs, while preserving the largest and healthiest trees.

Two units are included in this effort. Unit 1, located along Ruby Road and south of Arivaca, will feature a 13-acre fuel break on both sides of the road to mitigate roadside fire risks. Unit 2 will create a 48-
