ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Health officials in the Trump administration announced Monday they are linking pregnant mothers’ use of acetaminophen, a widely used drug ingredient, to a higher risk of autism in their children.

Acetaminophen, one of the most commonly used drugs in the world, is the active ingredient in popular pain relief meds like Tylenol.

Public health officials rushed to combat the announcement, which many argued there is no conclusive, scientific evidence.

The head of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued a statement that said in part previous research confirms there is no clear evidence linking acetaminophen to autism.
