WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — This week is an exciting time for Jewish communities around the world, including the more than 100,000 Jewish people in Connecticut.

Jewish communities celebrate a religious new year called Rosh Hashanah, which kicks off Monday night.

The Crown Market in West Hartford had special signs and displays up for Rosh Hashanah. Owner Khen Raviv said they have probably seen more than 5,000 customers in the past week.

Raviv's store is packed full with pastries, salads and sides. This week, they aren't just a meal — they are a celebration.

"The tradition is to gather together to go to the synagogue, to connect with Hashem (Hebrew word for God) and to eat a lot of sweets," Raviv said.
