A New Approach to DUI Enforcement in Vanderburgh County

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new partnership with the Vanderburgh County Fire Department aimed at improving DUI enforcement while minimizing inconvenience for drivers. This new initiative authorizes certified Fire Department paramedics to perform evidentiary blood draws in certain impaired driving investigations.

How the On-Scene Blood Draws Work

Under Indiana law, deputies must establish probable cause, consent, a warrant, or other legally recognized circumstances before requesting a blood sample. What changes under this agreement is the process.
