(KRON) -- Two juvenile drivers crashed on Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara, police said, resulting in the death of a popular high school student. The 16-year-old student was driving a Honda Accord when he crashed with a Toyota Camry, and later died from his injuries at the scene, the Santa Clara Police Department said.

The fatal accident happened at 9:36 p.m. on September 20 on Lawrence Expressway near Benton Street.

A GoFundMe page created by the driver's aunt identified the 16-year-old boy as Isaiah Mendoza. "Over the weekend, our family faced a devastating tragedy. We lost our kind, driven, smart, handsome, and talented Isaiah," the aunt wrote.

Mendoza was a student-athlete at Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, where he played on the soccer and baseball teams.
