LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Monday night’s sunset marked the beginning of the Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah, “the Holiday Season.”

During Rosh Hashanah, the Western Wall in Israel sees thousands of Jewish visitors.

It’s one of the holiest times for the Jewish religion. It celebrates the birthday of the Universe, which is when God created Adam and Eve.

Some holiday traditions include enjoying special foods like honey-dipped apples, and the blowing of the Shofar, a sacred ram’s horn.

A rabbi at Michigan State University explained why it’s a special holiday.

“Once a year in Rosh Hashanah, it’s all fresh. What happened last year, happened last year. All the not-such-good-stuff we’ll leave behind, all the good stuff we’ll take with us, and have even a better year this year,” said Benzion S
