A man was found dead on the side of Interstate 10 West near the Carrolton Avenue exit early Monday morning, New Orleans police confirmed.

The body was reported to the New Orleans Police Department at 6:42 a.m.

It's unclear how the man died. Police said Monday evening that they are investigating the case as an unclassified death pending an autopsy by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.

Police did not immediately release more information.
