On Saturday, Nov. 8, the nonprofit Serve Santa Maria will partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace, The Home Depot, and United Rentals to build 100 beds for local children ages 3 to 17 who don’t have a bed of their own.
The event, part of Serve Santa Maria’s 29th Day of Service, will take place with the goal of ensuring that “no kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
Volunteers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. No prior experience is necessary, training, tools and materials will be provided on site. Volunteers will learn to use tools such as sanders, drills, and even branding irons to turn raw lumber into beds, all in under four hours.
Pre-registration is required and now open at servesantamaria.com . Participants can sign up by visiting the site and clicking on the “Next
