A company is proposing to build a plant in Owen Sound’s industrial park that would use hydrogen to generate electricity.

The proposal by Public Energy Inc. came before Owen Sound council on Monday, where the municipality supported the company’s bid to the Independent Electricity System Operator’s long-term capacity procurement process.

“I think this is an excellent project. It puts us in alignment with some of the strategic visions that Owen Sound has,” said Coun. Suneet Kukreja. “Number one, it is clean energy advancement and this project I feel, when I read the report, does have the capacity to put Owen Sound as one of the leaders in innovation.”
