ALASKA – Fat Bear Week kicks off Tuesday at Katmai National Park, inviting the public to vote for their favorite brown bear preparing for hibernation.

This annual bracket-style competition allows voters to choose from photos of the bears, taken both early and late in the summer. The bears with the most bulk have the best chance of surviving winter hibernation.

The event, now in its 11th year, has seen Bear 128 Glazer take the title for the past two years.

The winner of this year’s competition will be announced on September 30. Mark your calendars to see which bear will reign supreme this year.
