Richland, N.Y. - A 33-year-old man from Clay, who was reported missing earlier this month, died in a car crash in Oswego County on Monday morning

Alexander J. Thornton was reported as a missing vulnerable adult on Sept. 7.

State Police were notified of a vehicle off the road on Interstate 81 south in Richland at approximately 8:30 a.m., according to a news release from State Police spokesperson Trooper Jennifer Jiron.

State Police determined that a 2008 black BMW M6, operated by Thornton, went off the road and into the median, struck a ditch, then continued into a wooded area where it struck a tree, according to the news release.

Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thornton had been last seen on Sept. 5.
