SAVANNA, Ill. (KWQC) - A Savanna man started training that could send him to space.

NASA’s new class of astronaut candidates was introduced Monday and includes U.S. Air Force Maj. Cameron Jones, according to a media release from NASA.

The 35-year-old is one of 10 candidates out of over 8,000 applicants across the county, officials said.

Jones and his fellow candidates recently reported to Johnson Space Center to begin almost two years of training, officials said.

Jones spoke to Kyle Kiel with Quad Cities Live on Monday. His full interview will air at 3 p.m. on Quad Cities Live on Thursday.
