Glenn Gary Cameron, known as the "Moore Park Rapist," has pleaded guilty to over a dozen charges related to a series of sexual assaults in Sydney during the early 1990s. Cameron, 61, has been in custody since his arrest in February 2022. He faces a total of 36 charges connected to eight victims.
Between 1991 and 1993, at least 10 women were assaulted in the Moore Park and inner west areas of Sydney. During that time, the perpetrator was referred to as the "Moore Park Rapist" or the "Night Stalker" in media reports. Cameron's arrest at Sydney International Airport was made possible by advancements in DNA and fingerprint technology, which allowed authorities to revisit historical sexual assault cases.
On Tuesday, Cameron appeared via audio-visual link at Downing Centre Local Court from Long Bay prison. His lawyer, Mickaela Mate, entered guilty pleas to 13 charges. One of the victims attended the hearing remotely to observe the proceedings. Cameron listened quietly as the charges were read aloud.
He pleaded guilty to 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault involving threats of bodily harm with a weapon, as well as attempted aggravated sexual assault and assault with an act of indecency. Additionally, he acknowledged 14 other charges that will be considered during sentencing. These include multiple counts of assault with an act of indecency, aggravated sexual assault, and detaining a person for advantage.
Nine charges were withdrawn, including assault with an act of indecency, aggravated sexual assault, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, detaining for advantage, and two counts of robbery while armed with a weapon.
Cameron's case will now proceed to the District Court for sentencing, with an arraignment date scheduled for next month.
