Homicide detectives investigating after man reportedly jumped from moving vehicle in the Whittier area and died

Officials are investigating a suspicious death after witnesses said a man jumped from a moving vehicle and died in unincorporated Whittier on Monday, Sept. 22.

Deputies responded around 11:30 a.m. to the 1100 block of Carmenita Road, near Sunshine Avenue and north of Imperial Highway, where witnesses told them a man jumped from a moving vehicle, said Lt. Michael Modica with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau.

The deputies found the man, who officials believe was in his 40s, walking down Carmenita and bleeding. He had scrapes and burns that investigators believe came from hitting the road, Modica said.

Shortly after deputies contacted the man, he went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
