HILL CITY, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Monday in Aitkin County, a Northland veteran was laid to rest. His burial comes 75 years after being killed in action in the Korean War.
In Hill City Monday morning, a special ceremony and funeral honored Sgt. Rosslyn Gresens.
He grew up in Hill City and joined the Army in 1949.
A year later, he found himself in Korea fighting in the war.
Then a Corporal, Gresens helped his battalion advance toward the enemy, accounting for 15 enemy casualties.
It’s presumed he then lost his life, but attempts to recover any remains in the area were unsuccessful.
He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart and promoted to Sergeant.
Then in February of this year, his remains were identified by the Army and brought home.
