Community leaders in Gunnedah have launched an e-petition demanding a significantly increased police presence to combat what they describe as a rising tide of crime that has left residents feeling unsafe.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson, Chamber of Commerce president Ben Hennessy and mayor Colleen Fuller spoke about the ongoing frustration in the community.
"Today is not about politics, it's about people. It's about giving our community what it needs," Mr Hennessy said.
"We've got the building for it; we need the boots on the ground.
"We need more officers and we need more resources for Gunnedah Police Station.
"Retail theft, car break-ins, assaults, and property damage are becoming all too common in our community."
