Assam is in mourning as thousands gather to bid farewell to legendary singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19 in Singapore. His last rites are being conducted with full state honours at Kamarkuchi village in Sonapur. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the funeral procession would begin at 9:30 am on September 23, starting from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex.

The Assam Police will serve as pallbearers, escorting Zubeen's coffin along the route, which will be closed to traffic. A gun salute will also be performed in his honour. Thousands of fans have already paid their respects at the sports complex, with long queues forming in the heat. Many fans sang Zubeen's iconic songs, while some required medical assistance due to the conditions.

In a touching moment, Zubeen's four dogs were brought to say their final goodbye at Sarusajai Stadium, where his body was displayed for public homage. His wife, Garima Garg, held the dogs close as they were shown their master’s face, creating an emotional scene.

In response to public demand for clarity regarding his death, a second post-mortem was conducted at Gauhati Medical College Hospital. Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that this decision was made with the family's consent to ensure transparency. He stated, "We do not want to create any controversy over Zubeen."

Zubeen Garg, known for his contributions to Assamese music and culture, was also recognized for his love for animals. His passing has prompted memorials across Assam, with many businesses closing in his honour. Garima Garg expressed gratitude for the public's overwhelming support during this difficult time.

Zubeen's funeral will reflect his significant impact on the community, with arrangements being made to ensure it is a fitting tribute to the beloved singer.
