It was a score that sent shockwaves through the Monroe County Region football: Jefferson 38, Riverview 8.

With St. Mary Catholic Central comfortably ahead of Grosse Ile at Navarre Field, many of the fans were using their phones to follow the Jefferson-Riverview game on Friday, Sept. 19.

Each new update that showed Jefferson lengthening its lead brought out more murmurs.

Some started thinking ahead of what might happen if Jefferson and SMCC both reach their game in Week 8 undefeated. SMCC athletic director Jared Janssen quipped that the area around Jefferson High School might need to be shut down for the day.

The Bears, who won just four games during the previous three seasons combined, are 4-0 for the first time since 2006.
