PLAYSTATION fans are getting a massive free upgrade – and it could save you money on your energy bills while giving gamers a new bonus feature at the same time.

The software update dropped worldwide on September 17, including here in the UK – and brings two major changes to the PS5 alongside the usual bug fixes and stability tweaks.

The first new feature is a power saver mode.

This clever setting lets you trim down the console’s energy use by slightly scaling back performance.

You can find it by heading to Settings, Power Saving, Use Power Saver.

It can be switched on or off for each supported game, and when it’s running, you’ll see a small icon pop up in the Switcher menu so you know it’s active.
