MORGANFIELD, Ky (WEHT) - In Morganfield, Rep. James Comer helped announce a big step forward for a major water project.

$1.6 million in federal funding has been awarded to the city for the third phase of its water project that aims to eliminate "forever chemicals" from the water supply.

The total project is expected to cost $8 million. A new building will be built next to the existing plant.

Officials say because many of the new water systems in communities like Morganfield were built in the 40s and 50s, upgrades are essential.
