The UK economy faced a "litany of worrying news" during the three months leading to September, with thousands of positions eliminated in advance of Rachel Reeves' second Autumn Budget .

The most recent 'flash' PMI from S&P Global revealed that business activity projections for the coming year dropped to a three-month low in September as companies prepared for a challenging Autumn Budget, as reported by City AM .

"Approximately 50,000 redundancies were indicated by the PMI during the three months to September," stated Chris Williamson, chief business economist at S&P.

Williamson noted the latest data "brought a litany of worrying news including weakening growth, slumping overseas trade, worsening business confidence and further steep job losses".
