Maggie May singer Rod Stewart was given a strict ultimatum by his wife Penny Lancaster over children during the early stages of their relationship.

When the pair met in 1999, Sir Rod, now 80, was already a dad-of-six, but Penny also wanted to have children with the rock star.

Speaking to Saga Magazine, Penny , 54, said that when they first started dating, Rod had made it clear he didn’t want anymore children.

Whilst he later relented, the pair have two sons together, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14, Penny admitted that had Rod stuck to his guns, she would have left him.

She admitted: “Yes. And that would have been very hard. But we just went with the flow.”
