ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- One city and one village in Onondaga County have been recognized by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for successfully implementing climate initiatives in their communities.

The Village of Marcellus and the City of Syracuse are among the 24 others newly certified under New York State's Climate Smart Communities Certification program.

To achieve certification, communities must accumulate points for planning and implementing actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve community resilience.

Those who reach the required number of points will become certified bronze, silver, or gold Climate Smart Communities.
