Playing at home with a playoff berth on the line Monday night, the Padres faced a lot of adversity playing the NL Central champion Brewers, who have the best record in the majors.
Before their first ups, the Padres trailed 3-0. After battling back to tie the game in the seventh, San Diego fell behind again in the 10th. And then after the Padres pulled even again, the Brewers loaded the bases with one out in the 11th.
The Padres survived the threat, then won 5-4 on a Freddy Fermin walk-off hit in the bottom of the 11th to clinch a National League wild-card spot and slice the Dodgers’ NL West lead to 2 ½ games.
