ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

Kirtland Air Force Base is conducting prescribed burns from Sept. 19 to 29 as part of ongoing wildfire prevention efforts. The exact dates depend on weather and safety conditions. An earlier burn took place earlier this year from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5.

The burns are happening in remote areas of the base through a coordinated, multi-agency approach. Officials say the goal is to reduce dangerous vegetation buildup and prevent large-scale wildfires in the region.

Residents may notice smoke near the area south of Four Hills and along the west side of the Manzano Foothills.

Officials emphasize that the burns are controlled and closely monitored by fire crews and environmental specialists to ensure public safety.
