In a news conference Sept. 22, U.S. President Donald Trump urged pregnant women to avoid taking Tylenol, blaming the over-the-counter painkiller for a rise in autism among children.

“Don’t take Tylenol,” Trump said during the conference . “Fight like hell not to take it.”

Trump added that pregnant women should only take Tylenol if they can't "tough it out," and even then, should only take a small dose.

Tylenol is made by Kenvue, a company with a global headquarters here in New Jersey.

Claims of autism and Tylenol being linked

During the news conference Sept. 22, Trump announced that acetaminophen — the active ingredient in Tylenol — can contribute to autism if used during pregnancy. He advised that pregnant women shouldn't use Tylenol unless they have a high fever.
